Australian author and poet Dorothy Porter has lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 54. Porter is perhaps best known for her verse novel about a lesbian private detective who falls in love with a suspect (played by Kellie McGillis in the 2000 Film The Monkey's Mask.
Porter deservedly won several literary awards, including The Age Book of the Year. She was also a nominee of the Miles Franklin Award. Porter is revered for her sensual, romantic and majestic theme poetry that enthralled readers; gay and straight alike.
Originally from Sydney, Porter relocated to Melbourne in 1993 to be with partner and fellow author Andrea Goldsmith.

Porter was working on a rock opera called 'January' with Tim Finn at the time of her death.

Sperm Donors and the Law
Pink Parents are a group of prospective and established families and friends of South Australia's same-sex community.
Pink Parents are a supportive and understanding community of future parents, single parents, couples, toddlers, babies, school-aged kids, extended, blended but importantly inclusive families.
We meet monthly for 'kid friendly' events. We also have regular ‘adult’s only’ nights to catch up and talk, support and generally relax in a gay-friendly atmosphere. Read more about our events.

We recognise the difficulties that can occur not only with same-sex parenting but with trying to become a parent. Visit our faq and links page for helpful information.
Pink Parents is also politically active. We regularly lobby MP's for political change. In tandem with Let's Get Equal, our members were pivotal in the campaign regarding the SA Domestic Partners Act. We have also been involved in a state wide research project to determine how our families are managing pregnancies. This research will ultimately aid the government in positive changes to the law.
